How much is your used kite, wing or foil gear worth?
Updated 24.10.2026
The right used price comes from the new price, the age and the condition. Here are depreciation guidelines, what moves the price, and how to set yours to sell quickly without giving it away.
Start from the new price
The starting point is the new price of the same model this season, or its last catalogue price. Add it to your listing: on Windruil, buyers then see the saving as a percentage.
Depreciation guidelines
For gear in good condition, rinsed and stored dry. Popular sizes and models sell at the top of the range.
| Age | Share of the new price |
|---|---|
| New, never used | 75 to 85% |
| One season | 60 to 70% |
| Two or three seasons | 45 to 60% |
| Four seasons and more | 25 to 40% |
Kites and wings lose value a little faster than foils: the canopy ages in the sun, while a well-kept carbon foil keeps its performance. Wetsuits lose the most. Gear often used in salt water without rinsing also loses value faster.
What raises the price
- Number of sessions: a two-season-old wing used fifteen times is worth more than a school wing.
- Included accessories: bag, boom, pump, leash, foil covers.
- High-end canopy or carbon: Aluula or high-modulus versions hold their value better.
- Receipt and serial number: they reassure the buyer about where the gear comes from.
What lowers the price
- Repairs, especially on the leading edge of a wing, kite or foil.
- A sun-baked canopy that crackles when crumpled.
- Seized bolts, corrosion around the inserts.
- An unpopular size, or a model replaced by a very different generation.
Declare defects in the listing, with photos: honest listings sell faster.
Setting your price to sell quickly
- Work out the range with the table, then look at comparable listings.
- Price slightly below them if you want to sell early in the season.
- Leave a little margin: buyers can make you an offer, which you accept or decline in one click.
- After two or three weeks without contact, lower the price: members who saved your listing get an e-mail.
On Windruil, you receive your full price: the buyer pays the protection fee. Posting a listing is free.
